Your Children Can Save YouBy Suzy In today's crazy times, we can all use help of some kind. Help on healthy living, raising a family, home improvements, budgeting or earning some extra money. This is my inspiration for this website. while trying to survive the loss of income in my family I became curious on what I could do to maintain my family's health and well being at a reasonable price. I found quite a bit of information out there, in fact too much information. I sorted through everything and put things which interested me in this site. I fully understand the advantages of keeping my family and pets healthy, rather than getting them cured through consulting doctors and keeping my Pharmacy in business. Not to say I do not use Doctors, but I have come to realize the old saying, " an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" is very true. I had not pushed my family into eating healthy, growing a vegetable garden or doing proactive pet care before. I thought it was difficult enough to raise the family without putting more constraints on myself. Besides when you want to get something changed, you must do it or it wont get done, right? I have now discovered this is not fully true. What I have found is, kids will get behind most changes and projects if you find ways to give them ownership in the process. An example of this is, most years I took some time to get a couple of vegetables into my garden, just so we would have some home grown vegetables to eat. Hey, this cuts costs and the vegetables taste incredible. Well at a weak moment (Mine or my son, who knows) my son asks me about the seeds and peat pots I had brought home, he asked if he could help germinating the seeds. After a few instructions, he was off to germinate. Very curious I thought. Long story short, after germinating, my son wanted to help plant the little plants and then without prompting, he kept them watered and harvested all season. Not only was I amazed about his interest in gardening, but his interest in eating these vegetables would scare any mother. I knew I would wake up to find this all a dream. The real surprise came the year after, around mid April, my son comes to me and asks if we were going to plant a garden this year, because he had some ideas on more things we could plant. I almost fainted. Enjoy! |
